Start Where You Are

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”

– Arthur Ashe

This is the advice I wish someone had given me when I was starting out in my career. But it makes sense for all challenges in life.

Sometimes what we want to achieve can seem impossible. And getting there in just a few steps certainly is. Fortunately, we’re allowed to take as many steps as we need. And they can be as small as we can manage.

I gave up on my dreams when I was young. It has taken me a long time to understand I can actually do all the things I want to do. I just have to be realistic about how long it’s going to take.

What this quote means to me

There is no time limit on achieving your dreams – unless you set one.

There will be challenges. There will be obstacles. There will be rejection. There will be failure. And there will be you – starting where you are, using what you have and doing what you can. Until you get to where you want to be.

  1. I’ve always loved this quote! I feel that people often try to start where they want to end up rather than where they currently are and it almost always turns out badly. Happy new year!
